There is still quite a bit of Strep. throat around as well as a non-Strep viral sore throat.

I have seen a number of children with vomiting and diarrhea of the 24 hours vomiting / 2-3 days of diarrhea variety.

I have seen a few cases of roseola as well.

Please take a look at the recent post on sun safety as you and your children have some fun in the sun!

...One concerning finding was that those teens who met the criteria for problem use were more likely to be depressed ad would get into serious fights more often.

...In response to an expected FDA review later this month, several of the largest manufacturers have stated that they will cease to make infant drop versions of acetaminophen (Tylenol) containing pain and fever reducers and acetaminophen containing cold medicine drops as well.

The reason for this is that there have been reported cases of parents with children of varying ages accidentally dosing the concentrated infant drops as though they were the children’s liquid.

...Teething rings, water filled teething rings chilled in the refrigerator (never in the freezer as, if to cold, the gums can get frostbitten), a damp, chilled washcloth to chew on or the occasional Tylenol or ibuprofen can all be used to comfort your child.

The simulation center is a place where medical personnel - physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, flight care, etc. can practice very realistic emergency scenarios in real time.

I have not heard confirmation as to whether or not the A strain that has been reported is the H1N1 “swine” flu that came through last fall or not.

The main thing to be aware of is that there are anti-viral medictions that can lessen the symptoms and shorten the duration of the flu. This is particularly important for people with high risk conditions who did not get the vaccine this year if they display symptoms of influenza.

...But, you may think, when children have a fever they get glassy eyed, they breath fast and shallow, their heart races, and they just want to lay around like a lump on a log.

...Another thing I hear parents worrying about is that the fever will keep going up and up if not treated and may reach a level where it can injure the brain.

...If they have a fever with no obvious reason, especially in an infant or toddler, that could mean they have a hidden infection such as in the urinary tract. ... If they seem fine when the fever is down, you can watch them at home and get them in to be seen during office hours.

ADHD children ‘have faulty off switch - This does NOT mean that we can use brain scans to diagnose ADHD yet, but it does make it clearer why children with this problem have the problems they do.
